Riots and Chaos

There are many terrible things going around in the world right, and the center of it all seems to fall on the United States. Not only do I not feel safe going out because of COVID, I also just don't want to get caught up in a riot. As far as I know, my neighborhood has not had any rioting, but you never know.

By all means, I respect the people that are protesting and standing up for themselves and others, but I feel nervous for them when the police show up. The videos that are popping up left and right on the Internet are genuinely terrifying to see. People are literally losing their minds, no one feels safe around the police anymore. I know I can't say that all police officers are the same, but the fact that they are actively removing those who are sympathizing with protesters from the frontlines is truly concerning. Not only that, but the ones that are on the frontlines are genuinely excited to be there? As if this is a fun thing for them?

I admit, I can't go on the Internet, scroll through Instagram stories and my Twitter feed, or do anything related to seeing all these posts about the riots. The fact that people are now joking that "it's halftime" and COVID problems have been put on pause - it's still a serious issue, but an even bigger issue has arisen. When will the world return to what it was? It's like we took a hundred steps backwards.

Racism has always been a concern, especially in the United States, given the history and whatnot. White privilege exists to its maximum extent here, and rarely do those with that privilege acknowledge it. People on Instagram have started a chain feed on their stories in support of #BlackLivesMatter, and all they're doing is tagging ten of their followers? Like, please. Excuse my language, but what the fuck is that going to do?

Those with large social media platforms - use them. I don't, but I'm still aware of the problems and talking about them amongst my own group of friends. But celebrities that think posting a single "Justice for George" Insta post and then sitting back and being like,"Ah, yes, I have done well!" -- look at yourself in the mirror and reflect on who you are as a person and your values.

The people who are posting uneducated things - please go educate yourselves. I'm sick of the people in this country saying things they have no idea over. I will be the first to admit, there's a lot of things I don't know about history or politics. But I don't post about it just to feel better about myself. I avoid topics I am unknowledgeable about until I actually educate myself on the topic. Your opinion is invalid if you're talking out of your ass. No one wants to hear dumb shit.

Those who are taking advantage of the uncertain times to loot stores - ????? What are you doing? Have you seen The Purge? Is that the kind of world you want to live in? Because that's what the USA seems like right now. Stop adding fuel to the flame that's already going on, we don't need it.

For those who are protesting, please stay safe. The world is chaotic and there seems to be no rules anymore. I truly hope that humanity wins this war, and that people become more aware of the overall problem. Racism is not okay. Ignoring racism is not okay. So stop acting like it is.
